Who bears the guilt in the crucifixion of Jesus?
Was it the religious leaders who conspired against Him?
The Pharisees who accused Him?
The teachers of the law and the scribes?
Was it the Roman Empire?
Pilate knew Jesus was innocent.
He knew the priests had handed Him over out of jealousy.
Yet he gave Jesus up…
For beating.
For mockery.
For death.
Was it the Roman soldiers who laughed as Jesus suffered?
Who put Him on the cross…
Divided His garments…
And mocked Him?
Was it the crowd?
Just days earlier, the crowd welcomed Jesus with shouts of:
“Hosanna to the Son of David!”
Now they shouted:
“Crucify Him!”

Lyrics:
Their Weakness, Our Witness
E, C, A
Their weakness
Fell upon Your chest, it's taking out Your breath
Sickness
Pain from what they’ve done, the persons they’ve become
Guilty
Of sins of their past, how did they make them last?
Selfless
You faced them in those days, so we could know Your grace
C, A, C, A
All that I feel inside, faith that You’ve let me find
C, D, E
This is the life they chose to live
And this is the price You’ve had to pay
And one day they’ll realize the chance that they’ve thrown away
For the sake of their weakness, the sake of our witness
E, C, A
They’re blinded
Susceptible to trust to anyone but You
Hurtful
they’re praising enemies, while spitting on the Truth
C, A, C, A
Maybe one day they’ll find
Spirit You’ve left behind
C, D, E
This is the life they chose to live
And this is the price You’ve had to pay
And one day they’ll realize the chance that they’ve thrown away
For the sake of their weakness, the sake of our witness
So who bears the guilt?
All of them.
Every single one of them.
Yet their guilt is not for me to judge.
They had their chance at salvation.
Let the weakness of their faith be a strength to our witness.
